Retinol
Some of the most popular ingredients in cosmetics are derivatives of vitamin A (retinol), retinoids. They help reduce wrinkles, lighten pigmentation and treat acne. But they also increase the skin’s photosensitivity. There are many forms of retinoids – active (medications) and not so active (cosmetic). “If it’s an inexpensive mass-market cream labelled “vitamin A”, you’re unlikely to see a retinol side effect in the sun. However, vitamin A is different in that it breaks down quickly in the sun.
